Balochistan
A grenade attack on Khawan complex on Quetta- Karachi Road in Khuzdar injured two passersby Muhammad Alam Shahzai and Muhammad Arshad a ten-year-old child (22 August).
A grenade was reportedly hurled in a Chowk in Mastung, however, no damage to human life was reported (22 August).
KPK
Security forces killed two terrorists during exchange of fire in a raid in Bara Tehsil of Khyber district (18 August).
Eleven persons travelling in a civilian vehicle were martyred in an IED blast carried out by unidentified terrorists in Gul Mir Kot area of Shawal tehsil in South Waziristan district (19 August). According to details, the attackers used explosives, targeting a vehicle carrying sixteen labourers. Deputy Commissioner of North Waziristan, revealed that the assailants detonated their devices with deadly precision, destroying the vehicle and killing 11 people. The construction workers, who were working on a government building, were killed. In addition, two workers were injured, and three others missing till the filing of this report.
Police during a raid recovered elven 30 bore pistols, four 9 mm pistols a repeater, a Kalashnikov, Kalakove rifle, 42 magazines from two three-wheeler rickshaws in Sawabi-Jehngera Road in Sawabi district (19 August).
A bomb blast carried out by unknown terrorists damaged the boundary wall of an under-construction police post in Haved area of Bannu district (20 August).
CTD Police busted a network of terrorists by arresting a number of its members including Arshad Sher Ali involved in killings and throwing grenades on police in Mardan and other areas of the KPK province. A key member Attaullah a former Imam masjid however, managed to escape to Afghanistan (21 August).
Police Sub Inspector Gul Jalal, who was wounded in a targeted attack by unknown gunmen when he was going to offer Fajar prayer in a mosque in Mathra area of Peshawar, succumbed to injuries (21 August).
Levy police official Jahanzeb Khan was martyred by unknown shooters in Gul Waliabad area of Lakki Marwat district (21 August).
Two local persons – Younas Khan and Abdul Nasir who used to supply water to a post of security forces were martyred, travelling in a pickup, by unidentified terrorists in a targeted attack in Spalga area, Miranshah tehsil of North Waziristan district (21 August).
Security forces in an IBO killed four terrorists and injured two others however, during exchange of fire with them six soldiers also embraced martyerdom in Asman Monza area of South Waziristan district. Meanwhile defunct TTP has reportedly accepted responsibility of the attack (21 August).
Six soldiers were martyred while four terrorists were killed in a fire exchange, which took place at Asman Manza, South Waziristan, (22 August). According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the fire exchange took place between troops and terrorists in the general area of Asman Manza. The troops effectively engaged the terrorists and resultantly four terrorists were killed while two terrorists were injured.
Prominent religious scholar Moulana Zibta Ali Khan who was reportedly kidnapped by five armed persons in Bakkakhel area when he was going to his seminary in a car in Bannu district was freed on the intervention of a strong Jirga of tribal elders and religious figures of the area (22 August).
Unknown gunmen shot dead one Nawab Khan a brother of a police constable in Inyat Killy Bazar in Khar, Bajaur district (22 August).
Unidentified armed motorcyclists martyred a Police Constable Riaz Gul performing security duty outside a bank in Tank city while a passerby was also injured (23 August).
Security forces killed a terrorist (name not known) during exchange of fire in Ladha area of South Waziristan district (23 August).
Punjab
Nineteen Churches, dozens of houses of Christan community and office of Assistant Commissioner were vandalised and gutted by an unruly mob following a news of the desecration of Holy Quran in Jaranwala town and suburban areas in Faisalabad district. Police arrested over 160 persons including the two main suspects for their alleged involvement in the said incident. The incident was widely condemned by the top leadership and civil societies at home and abroad including the UN. Government vowed to rehabilitate the damaged houses and churches on its own expenses with providing protection to the Christan community and their worship place. A high-level fact-finding inquiry is being conducted to ascertain the reasons for the incident and to identify the actual culprits involved in this incident (16 August).
Sindh
Three police personnel were injured in a grenade attack on a mobile patrol van by unknown terrorists in the limits of Sachal Police Station in Karachi (16 August).
Sindh Rangers claim to have arrested two alleged terrorists identified as Farmanullah @ Ihtesham and Daud Amir, affiliated with a banned outfit from Godap, Karachi. They were involved in various cases of terrorism in Bajaur and Karachi (17 August).
Two persons identified as Murtaza Haider and Ghulam Fareed were shot dead by unknown assailants in separate incidents in Gulshan e Jauhar area in Karachi (19 August).
Police Constable Zahid Mahmood, who worked in the Foreigners’ Security Cell was martyred in a targeted attack in Sharif Goth area of Karachi (20 August).
Two PPP local leaders – Amjad Hussain and Shaukat Hamad were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Orangi Town, Karachi, in separate incidents within four days (18- 21 August).
A joint team comprising police and a security agency reportedly arrested an alleged Indian spy Identified as Akhal Dev and his local facilitators Zahoor Ahmed during a raid in Kalkot area of Lyari in Karachi. They were involved in conducting recce of sensitive areas in the country (23 August).
India
Indian smugglers enter Pakistan
Pakistan Rangers arrested six Indian smugglers in the Pakistani territory from 29 July to 03 August. According to the Inter Services Public Relation department (ISPR) they were trying to smuggle narcotics, weapons and ammunition to Pakistan and will face law for Illegal entering Pakistan and their involvement in the nefarious activities. Four of them were identified as Gurmeet Singh, Shinder Singh, Joginder Singh and Vishal belonging to Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and other areas. It was surprising how these smugglers could enter Pakistan through the tightly knit fence on the Indian side, under the strict surveillance of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). It raises doubt about the likely complicity of the BSF with such smuggling net works. It is significant to mention here that India erected heavy fence with gates at certain distance, with installation of 50000 poles and 150000 flood lights for proper visibility during dark on the Indian side on most of the 3323 km long border between the two countries (21 August).
Violence at Line of Control (LOC)/Illegal Indian Occupied Jammu Kashmir (IIOJK)
Indian army, in an unprovoked fire, from across the Line of Control (LOC), martyred an elderly Pakistani identified as Ghias and injured three women working in the field in Nikial Sector of Kotli district in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It was a blatant aggression by the Indian troops in violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries. Pakistan Foreign Office lodged a severe protest with India in this regard (20 August).
Two innocent Kashmiri youth were martyred by the Indian security forces in their so-called anti militancy drive in Balakot village of Poonch district inside IIOJK (21August).
Afghanistan
Crime & Violence
District police Chief of Mazar-e-Sharif was gunned down by unidentified persons. In another incident, four kidnappers were killed, and an abductee was rescued by the Afghan security forces in Pagman area of Kabul. According to Khalid Zadran, spokes person of Taliban, a Youtuber blogger Horra Sadat was murdered in Kabul and two persons allegedly involved were arrested. A magnetic bomb blast killed two persons and injured two others in Darul Aman area of Kabul. IS-K/Daesh is suspected of carrying out targeted killings and blasts due to their enmity with Taliban in addition to local criminal groups (19,20 and 23 August).
Iran
Terrorists arrested
Irani authorities claimed to have arrested the main facilitator of ISIS/Daesh linked terrorists in Syria and Afghanistan, who managed to carry out shooting attack by a gunman on 13 August in Shah Chiragh shrine in Shiraz which took life of two persons and injured eight others (18 August). Commander Irani Police force Brigadier General Dostali Jalilini revealed that a group of Jaish e Adal members was recently arrested in Iran Saher of Sistan- Balochistan province who were planning to commit terrorism. Jaish e Adal has been attacking Irani security forces and other targets in past and several members were killed and convicted by the Irani police and courts of law (22 August).
