Balochistan

Unknown armed individuals attacked coal-laden trucks, killing a driver identified as Habitullah Hamzazai and setting three trucks on fire in the Chamalang area of Duki district. These trucks were en route to Punjab. Since February, terrorist attacks on coal mines, laborers, and trucks have escalated, resulting in 21 deaths. - Counterterrorism Operation in Musakhel (3.11.24):
During a joint IBO operation by the CTD, police, and security forces, three alleged terrorists were killed, and two others were arrested. They were reportedly affiliated with the defunct Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). Comments & Analysis: The sheer number of terrorism incidents in KP is alarming. These incidents reflect a complex security landscape marked by evolving militant tactics and internal vulnerabilities. Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach, combining robust counter-terrorism operations with institutional reforms and community-centric strategies.
Key Facilitator Arrested in Peshawar Police Lines Mosque Suicide Bomb Attack (12.11.24)
- Inspector General of Police (IGP) KPK Akhtar Hayat Gandapur announced the arrest of a police constable, Muhammad Wali, from Jamil Chowk, Peshawar. He was identified as a key facilitator in the January 2023 suicide bomb attack on the Peshawar Police Lines Mosque, which resulted in the deaths of 86 police officers and injuries to many others. Investigations revealed that Wali had provided a police uniform and a suicide vest to the bomber, identified as Qari, an Afghan national. He also transported the bomber to the mosque. Wali had been recruited on social media by Junaid, a recruiter for the defunct Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuH). Further inquiries revealed that Wali held several meetings in Afghanistan with JuH members, including spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani. He was paid Rs200,000 as a reward and received a monthly salary for facilitating terrorist activities in Pakistan.
- Two security personnel martyred in Harnai (14.11.24):
An officer, Major Muhammad Haseeb and Havildar Noor Ahmed embraced martyrdom in an operation in Harnai district.
PUNJAB
1. Arrest of Most-Wanted Human Trafficker (4.11.24):
The FIA reported the arrest of Bashir Ahmed, one of the most wanted human traffickers, in Hafizabad. He was also a proclaimed offender (PO) in the 2021 Libya boat capsize tragedy case.
2. Medical Officer Found Dead on Peshawar Motorway (8.11.24):
The tortured and bullet-riddled body of Dr. Abdullah Niaz, a medical officer at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, was discovered on the Peshawar Motorway near Dhok Pannu, Thatta Khalil, in Taxila Tehsil, Rawalpindi District.
3. Police Encounter in Green Town, Lahore (9.11.24):
Four alleged robbers, identified as Rizwan Akbar, Ali Raza, and Zain Ali, were killed during an exchange of fire in Green Town, Lahore. Their female accomplice and two policemen sustained injuries. The encounter occurred after police received information about the presence of a criminal gang in a house involved in looting citizens while disguised in rescue service uniforms.
4. Notorious Criminal Killed in Rahim Yar Khan (9 & 10.11.24):
Shahid Lund Baloch, a notorious criminal from the Lund dacoits gang operating in the Kacha riverine area, was shot dead by his clan member Umar Lund in the Bangla Icha locality of Rahim Yar Khan district. Umar later surrendered to the Rajanpur district police. Shahid Lund was implicated in 48 cases, including killings of policemen and citizens, kidnappings for ransom, and more. He carried a government bounty of Rs10 million.
5. Recovery of Ransom Victim in Rahim Yar Khan (13.11.24):
Police reported the recovery of Dr. Khalid Mehmood, who had been kidnapped for ransom on 21 October. Five dacoits were arrested during a raid in the Kacha riverine area at the Punjab-Sindh border.
6. Thwarted Attack on Surveillance Drone in Dera Ghazi Khan (13.11.24):
Police and other law enforcement agencies successfully thwarted a targeted shooting attempt by terrorists on a surveillance drone (UAV) in the Jadewali area of Dera Ghazi Khan district, near the Punjab-KPK border. The drone landed safely without sustaining any damage.
SINDH
1. Police rescued two suspected robbers, Arman Qadeer and Imran Kousar, from an enraged mob that intended to lynch them after severe beatings in Surjani Town, Karachi. The robbers were overpowered by residents while committing a robbery in the area (3 & 6.11.24).
2. Two Chinese nationals were injured after being shot by a private security guard, Sharifullah, at a textile mill in the SITE area of Karachi. The injured individuals were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The accused security guard fled the scene, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend him. The Foreign Office condemned the incident, extended sympathies to the families of the injured, and reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Chinese embassy in Islamabad, where they expressed condemnation of the recent attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi (5, 6 & 7.11.24).
3. Six policemen, including Inspector Asif Jatoi, Sub Inspector Waheed Panwar, Sub Inspector Saifullah Gill, and three constables, were dismissed from service after a departmental inquiry found them guilty of wrongful confinement and extortion in two separate cases in Hyderabad district (9.11.24).
Arrest of Facilitators in Chinese Nationals’ Killing in Suicide Bomb Attack
4. CTD police arrested two suspects, Javed and his female accomplice, Gul Nisa, who were affiliated with the outlawed BLA-Majeed Brigade. The suspects were presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi, which granted a 10-day physical remand for further investigation. Another suspect, Danish, remains at large. The two suspects are accused of facilitating a suicide bombing near Karachi Airport that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two Chinese nationals and one Pakistani, and injured 11 others.
Investigations revealed that BLA commanders Bashir Ahmed, alias Bashir Zeb, and Abdul Rehman, alias Rehman Gul, were involved in orchestrating the attack. Earlier, Sindh Interior Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, alongside Inspector General Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, disclosed the arrests during a press conference on 10 October. The minister stated that the explosive-laden vehicle, containing 30–40 kg of explosives, was transported from Hub to Karachi, where it was handed over to the suicide bomber, Shah Fahad, alias Aftab. The minister commended the CTD police for their efforts, announced a reward of Rs5 crore, and recommended police medals for the investigation team (12.11.24).
Comments & Analysis: There had been news that China wanted to place its own security personnel for the security of its nationals in Pakistan. Pakistan FO has denied that China made any such demand.
DEFENSE AND SECURITY
1. PNS Zulfiqar Responds to Distress Call (1.11.24):
The Pakistan Navy ship PNS Zulfiqar, deployed on a regional maritime security patrol, responded to a distress call from the Iranian vessel *Al Muhammadi,* which was stranded over 1,200 nautical miles from the home port. The Navy dispatched its medical and technical team to assist an injured crew member and repair the vessel’s malfunctioning engine.
2. Missile Test by Pakistan Navy (3.11.24):
The Pakistan Navy conducted a successful test of an indigenously developed, ship-launched ballistic missile with a range of 350 km, capable of targeting both land and sea objectives. The test was witnessed by the Chief of the Naval Staff and other senior officers. The President, Prime Minister, and service chiefs also lauded the achievement. In July, the Navy had successfully tested the surface-to-air FN-6 missile from its ground-based air defense system.
3. COAS Meeting with Saudi Crown Prince (6.11.24):
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir met with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in Riyadh during an official visit to Saudi Arabia. Discussions focused on mutual interests, including regional peace, defense and security cooperation, and strategies to strengthen bilateral relations.
4. Conclusion of Indus Shield Bilateral Exercise (6.11.24):
The Indus Shield bilateral exercise, a component of *Exercise Indus Shield 2024* conducted between the Pakistan and Chinese Air Forces, concluded at an operational airbase of the Pakistan Air Force. The exercise featured high-tech equipment and personnel from the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).
5. Meeting with Australian Army Chief (11.11.24):

1. Iranian Foreign Minister’s Visit to Islamabad (4 & 5.11.24):
Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi, during his two-day visit to Islamabad, held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir. Discussions included mutual interests, bilateral cooperation, and the regional security environment.
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that both nations were closely aligned on key regional issues, particularly regarding countering Israeli aggression in Gaza, Lebanon, and other areas. He clarified that Iran seeks no escalation but reserves the right to respond to Israeli aggression in line with its legitimate right to self-defense.
Speaking at a dinner reception at the Iranian embassy, he acknowledged gaps in Pakistan-Iran border coordination and highlighted the need to strengthen border management and counter-terrorism efforts to curb cross-border violence, smuggling, and drug trafficking.
2. Pakistan-USA Bilateral Relations (7.11.24):
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zaharia Baloch reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and the USA, dismissing speculation about interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs as baseless. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated newly elected US President Donald Trump. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated Beijing’s support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism actions and its commitment to protecting Chinese nationals and institutions abroad. 4. Arab and Muslim Leaders’ Meeting in Riyadh (11.11.24):
An extraordinary meeting of Arab and Muslim leaders in Riyadh condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza, called for a ban on exporting weapons to Israel, and demanded Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories to achieve comprehensive peace in the region.

AFGHANISTAN

Afghan security forces seized a large cache of weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, a rocket, numerous grenades, and thousands of bullets, along with telecommunication equipment, during a raid in Khost province.
2. Change in Weapon Distribution Policy (7.11.24):
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), announced that the Emirate’s leadership issued an eight-point directive removing authority over the distribution of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment from the Ministries of Interior, Defense, and the Directorate of Intelligence. This decision reportedly followed the misuse of weapons distribution by influential Taliban members to their favored individuals.
3. Proposal for a Security Belt Around Afghanistan (7.11.24):
Sergey Lebedev, Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), mentioned during a meeting in Moscow that the CIS Executive Committee supported a proposal by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to establish a joint working group. This group aims to develop a plan for creating a security belt around Afghanistan to address regional security issues, including international terrorism, smuggling of narcotics and weapons, and illegal migration.
4. Afghanistan-India Relations Discussed in Kabul (7.11.24):
JP Singh, Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs for the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran Desk, met Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul. 1. India-China Agreement on Border Disengagement (5.11.24):
