Comments & Analysis: The security and terrorism scenarios in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Balochistan remained critical, while Punjab and Sindh witnessed a significant rise in general crimes, including murders, kidnappings, and attacks.
The seizure of Zehri Town in Khuzdar district, Balochistan, by militants—who torched government buildings and looted money and official weapons—highlighted the failure of advanced intelligence and security apparatus. The dismissal of 15 Levies Force personnel by the Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar for not resisting the militants seems insufficient. There is a need to design a foolproof security system to prevent such incidents in the future.
The strict counter-terrorism operations conducted by security forces in KPK and Balochistan send a strong message to militants and terrorist outfits, indicating tough times ahead if they continue their activities.
Following the agreement between rival groups brokered by the jirga and administration, a convoy of trucks carrying daily commodities and medicines reached the besieged area of Parachinar and surrounding regions in Kurram tribal district. Another convoy is ready to commence its journey. As part of the agreement, four bunkers of the fighting groups in lower Kurram were destroyed, with more likely to follow.
