These TTP terrorists were based in Gawardesh, Pitigal, Barg-e-Matel and Batash areas of Nuristan and Kunar provinces of Afghanistan. Pakistan had already picked up their movement and timely shared it with the Interim Afghan (Taliban) government but they did little to stop this incursion from inside Afghanistan. TTP had been threatening to attack the checkposts in Chitral therefore Chitral Scouts were put on alert at the border with Kunar and Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan. TTP terrorists had entered the border villages in Chitral’s Bumburet Valley and set up their sanctuaries on hilltops. They fired from hilltops at the paramilitary Chitral Scouts of FC and local police (6 September).

Comments & Analysis: The groups within Afghan Taliban are supporting TTP not only in harbouring them in the Afghanistan area but also facilitating their terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.  Despite repeated reminders and warnings the Afghan Taliban government has not stopped these militants from using its soil to attack the neighbouring country. Some sources are of the opinion that the Afghan government high ups are unable to stop their lower ranks and foot soldiers from providing support to TTP. In this particular case Pakistan could have launched aerial attacks to neutralise TTP terrorists inside Afghanistan.

A skirmish took place between border forces of Pakistan and Afghanistan at Torkham border. The Afghan Taliban wanted to build a check-post adjacent to the border which was not acceptable to Pakistan. The disagreement culminated into exchange of fire. There were no casualties but the border was closed for all sort of traffic (6 September).
