PUNJAB

2. CTD police arrested Husnain, prayer leader of Jamia Masjid Bahar-e-Madina in Mandi Bahauddin, and recovered maps of sensitive locations, alleging he was planning terrorist attacks on security installations in and around Okara (29.8.26).
3. Unidentified armed motorcyclists shot dead a man identified as Haji Munir outside a mosque in Defence C, Lahore (29.8.26).

SINDH

1. Rangers and CTD police arrested alleged TTP suspect Shahzad alias Dangar in Karachi (16.8.26).
2. CTD police, along with an intelligence agency, arrested three SRA-affiliated men—identified as Zafar Ali, Faraz and Sajjad Ahmad—during a raid in Karachi for allegedly firing at and killing Aman, a stall owner selling national flags and badges, on 12 August, ahead of Independence Day. Three hand grenades and a pistol were recovered from their possession (19.8.26).
3. Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead Advocate Shakeel Majeed Sheikh and injured his companion in a suspected targeted attack in North Karachi (19.8.26).
4. CTD Karachi arrested suspected terrorist Syed Muhammad Askari Abdi, allegedly linked to the outlawed Sipah-i-Muhammad Pakistan, during an operation in Karachi. He was reportedly involved in targeted killings of religious scholars, reorganising the group’s network, and was wanted in multiple cases. He allegedly confessed to involvement in several such attacks, including the killings of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Mufti Jameel, Mufti Irshad and others (28.8.26).

DEFENCE

1. Pakistan’s Armed Forces, led by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, commemorated the 55th Shahadat anniversary of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider), paying tribute to his supreme sacrifice in 1971 and reaffirming their commitment to Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests (20.8.26).

SECURITY

The federal government has authorised the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months on the request of the Punjab Home Department to perform sensitive security duties and respond to any unforeseen situation, under Article 245 of the Constitution, according to an Interior Ministry order (21.8.26).

DIPLOMATIC DEVELOPMENT, ECONOMY AND SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

1. Pakistan’s Foreign Office rejected as “baseless” Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s allegations linking Pakistan to the arrests of over 200 alleged terror operatives in a 14-state operation on 12 August 2026, in which Indian authorities claimed to have recovered weapons and explosives allegedly bearing Pakistan Ordnance Factory markings (17.8.26).
2. Pakistan reportedly summoned the US Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad and protested over the remarks of US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor during his first visit to Srinagar with IIOJK CM Omar Abdullah, where he reportedly called Jammu and Kashmir an “important part of India.” Islamabad rejected the statement, reaffirmed Kashmir’s disputed status under UN Security Council resolutions, and urged Washington to maintain consistent language while supporting President Donald Trump’s mediation offer. (19.8.26).
3. Visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, with both sides stressing stronger Pakistan–Syria cooperation in politics, defence, trade, investment, education and human-resource development. AFGHANISTAN

Law and Order / Security

1. At least 52 children were reportedly injured in a hand-grenade explosion near a school in Dasht-e-Barchi, western Kabul. Foreign countries, including Syria and Saudi Arabia, condemned the bombing attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast, though Taliban officials suspect ISIS-K as investigations continue. 2. Fighting between the Afghanistan Freedom Front and Taliban-led IEA forces intensified in Badakhshan’s Zebak and Nusay districts, amid reported casualties and a communications shutdown. Taliban dissident commander Juma Khan Fateh reportedly surrendered unconditionally after negotiations led by Army Chief Fasihuddin Fitrat, with his fighters agreeing to disarm. Analysts view the clashes as reflecting wider internal instability and disputes over disarmament, local authority and gold mines, raising cross-border security concerns for Tajikistan and risks to Uzbekistan’s trade and connectivity projects with the Central Asian countries (15–17, 30.8.26).

7. Afghan Ambassador Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb said Kabul seeks relations with Pakistan based on dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation, while rejecting pressure or force. Pakistan termed Taliban-led government allegations of involvement in Badakhshan unrest baseless, attributing the violence to Afghanistan’s internal governance and security issues. Pakistan Foreign Office, reportedly following the remarks of Afghan Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, said that his country remains open to state-to-state dialogue on terrorism but demands tangible action against the use of Afghan soil by militants. Meanwhile, according to an unconfirmed media report, the TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud rejected Sirajuddin Haqqani’s claim about relocating TTP fighters near Pakistan’s border, amid continued tensions over TTP activities and cross-border attacks (17, 25 & 27 Aug 2026).

Comments & Analysis: Analysts say the Pakistan–Afghanistan ceasefire remains fragile despite mediation by Qatar, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and China, with disputes over TTP sanctuaries, Pakistani military actions, border closures and growing Afghan–Indian ties straining relations and disrupting trade. Unconfirmed reports also suggest Taliban intelligence chief Abdul Haq Wasiq secretly visited India, reflecting closer India–Taliban engagement despite UN sanctions on his travelling. A UN Security Council report further flagged BLA cooperation with Afghan-based groups, including ISIL-K, access to advanced weapons and equipment, and alleged training of BLA and TTP members by Al Qaeda-linked trainers in Afghanistan, warning of increased militant capabilities.

BANGLADESH

Bangladesh National Party (BNP) leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected Bangladesh’s 23rd President by Parliament, defeating opposition candidate Oli Ahmed by 255–88 votes. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rehman told Parliament that the country would positively consider joining the Makkah Pact if invited by its founding members, viewing it as a Muslim world self-defence mechanism and a matter of national interest (20, 27.8.26).

Comments & Analysis: Analysts assess that Bangladesh’s post-election democratic transition is likely to improve domestic stability, while its foreign policy faces growing complexities. India-Bangladesh ties remain strained over border management, water-sharing and Dhaka’s demand for the extradition of former PM Sheikh Hasina, who has lived in New Delhi since August 2024. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is strengthening strategic and defence ties with China and Pakistan, including reported talks for up to 24 Chinese J-10CE fighters, and may consider joining the Saudi Arabia-Pakistan-Türkiye “Makka Pact.” Despite tensions, India and Bangladesh continue border patrols, intelligence sharing and efforts against cross-border crime. Hasina’s extradition remains a major diplomatic hurdle, while the evolving India apprehends that the Bangladesh-China-Pakistan alignment could affect its regional security, connectivity on land, particularly LAC, and maritime interests in the Indian Ocean.

ILLEGALLY INDIAN OCCUPIED JAMMU AND KASHMIR (AJK) / LOC

1. US Ambassador to India and President Trump’s Special Envoy Sergio Gor described Jammu & Kashmir as an “important part of India” during his Srinagar visit on 19 August 2026. He met J&K CM Omar Abdullah to discuss economic cooperation and indicated a possible review of the US Level-4 travel advisory, while also visiting Leh, Ladakh; former CM Mehbooba Mufti welcomed potential US cooperation in horticulture and handicrafts but said the J&K issue cannot be resolved by Washington (19–20.8.26).
2. Former CM of IIOJK and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said she supports Article 370 and called herself a “dimaagi Naxal,” responding to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 15 August speech targeting alleged ideological supporters of Naxalism (16.8.26).
3.
